Broadsheets

4 stars The Electronic Telegraph - In depth online version of the printed broadsheet. Once you have registered (takes 30 seconds) you have access to all the articles and intreviews on the extensive site. The layout is more like a website than a newspaper, which is a good thing. Site Guide

4 stars The Independent - Very well designed site. Looks fantastic, very clear and crisp. All the articles are lenghty and in cepth, and there is a total range of news and other topics to read. Site Guide

4 stars The Times - Heavy broadsheet online. Great online paper that gives detailed articles for all major news areas. Not just outlines, but shortened versions of the real printed ones. Easy to find what you want, and there is lots to choose from. Site Guide

4 stars The Guardian Online - Fully searchable online version. All the paper's comment, interviews etc. available here. Good news and sports coverage. Check out the G2 section for some amusing articles and some more serious issues. Site Guide

3 stars The Financial Times - The Pink Paper online. Not the most inspired design, but gives you all the market news at a glance. All the major news stories included, and links to related articles so you can read all about a topic. Site Guide

2 stars Times Educational Supplement - Education information Online version that gives outline of what you will find in printed supplement. Some areas are given in full (e.g. letters) but the main sections are not, so you have to buy the paper. Site Guide

3 stars The Scotsman - Online newspaper detialing Scottish issues. Also has world news, but predominantly Scottish articles, which have good detail and cover all the angles. Some good photos to accompany articles. Includes webcam with view of Edinburgh Site Guide

2 stars Daily Record / Sunday Mail - Scottish newspaper. Top news stories, but limited number, although the articles are just the right length. Lots of football coverage, specific to Scotland and the world stage. Site Guide

Irish papers

2 stars Belfast Evening Telegraph - Online news from Northern Ireland. Very banner-heavy site, with tiny box for navigating the news stories. Once inside, a very cramped menu lets you choose from a multitude of stories that are decent and well written. Site Guide

Tabloids

3 stars Daily Express - Site of this daily paper. Very clean design that makes things very easy to find and navigate. Stories are not too long, but give all the details, and are very well written. Some good pictures enhamnce the articles. Site Guide

3 stars Daily Mirror - Online version of daily. Showbiz and sport dominated, with the news items being populist and not really up to date. Probably best to buy the printed version if you want the news items, if you must. Site Guide

3 stars Daily Star - Tabloid online. Predictably shallow news coverage, focussing on football and 'babes'. Layout is fine, and there is loads to go at, but purely for those of the short attention span. Site Guide

2 stars Sun - Stories from the tabloid online. Weak attempt at news, as it is overpowered by the showbiz goings on. If the story does not involve a soap star, a lottery win or a half-clad girl, it is hard to find. Site Guide

Sundays

3 stars Sunday Times - Many sections online. Not up to date news during the week, but has loads and loads to look at, including very in depth features. Also includes the crossword to print and contend with. Site Guide

US papers

3 stars The New York Times - Online US news. Actual layout looks like a front page of a paper. Very well put together, easy to find articles that are readable and interesting. Site Guide

3 stars LA Times - News site. Bright layout that looks anything but the front page of a newspaper. Sections are easy to find, and the breaking stoies are easy to find. Site Guide

Digest

3 stars What The Papers Say - Handy little digest. Groups together quotes and snippets from all the papers for each subject. Works well, but is a little overpowered by advertising banners. Site Guide
